About Greek Life

GO GREEK!

For over 170 years, The University of Vermont’s fraternities and sororities have played an active role in our campus climate. To this day, UVM’s Greek Community continues to provide endless opportunities in an environment that enhances learning experiences contributing to the development of citizenship, intellect, leadership, and life-long friendships. The opportunity to become actively involved as a member of a fraternity or sorority can be among the most rewarding collegiate experiences, one that will last a lifetime.

Many Greek members are also leaders on campus in a wide range of student organizations and on athletic teams. Fraternities and sororities contribute significant amounts of time working with and raising funds for local and national community service organizations and agencies.

Currently there are 18 recognized fraternal organizations (11 fraternities and 7 sororities) with approximately 700 members (approximately 8% of the undergraduate student population). Fraternities and sororities can extend an invitation to join any time of year, however, most members join during peak recruitment, which takes place during the beginning of fall and spring semesters. Throughout recruitment you will have opportunities to ask Greek members questions about how each chapter will contribute to your experience at UVM.
